Excel seemed to start up faster - but I only checked it briefly. I was more concerned with getting Word to work. I had used up many hours trying the three suggested "fixes". I also ran "repair installation" from the installation DVD - which made no difference. My patience had run out. I am NOT an unpaid beta tester for Microsoft. So I uninstalled Office using the recommended "Fix it" - which again tied my computer up for over an hour. Office is now back, and working perfectly well, as it always has.
I'm very cross with myself for wanting to get rid of it for the sake of a few extra gimmicks in Office The number of people having similar problems to mine - and reporting them on-line in various fora - is large.
